Chasing the Valley – Skye Melki-Wegner
This is another of the books I received from Random House. The first few chapters had me hooked and I had high expectations. I liked the character of Danika and the magical /but not completely magical setting. The steady introduction of other characters was well done in that you didn’t have to get to know everyone straight away. However, as it went on as a hero quest story, it typically dragged. Too many obstacles for me; I started to skim read and writing about it a few weeks on, I can’t remember details. As the first of a trilogy there is the potential for more excitement as they head for the Magnetic Valley and a bit of romance for Danika and (former prince) Lukas. Overall, whilst it isn’t a stand out, “you must read this book” I will recommend this to my students who like fantasy quest novels and will look forward to the next in the series.
