Action and Adventure

February – Robert Muchamore – Black Friday (Cherub Series 2 – number 3)

This cherub is the third in the second series (about Ryan Sharma) and finally seems to match the action and engagement of the first series (about James) that made books like Brigand’s MC hard to put down.  Black Friday continues the story surrounding the Amarov clan but makes use of a good variety of locations and action sequences rather than stalling in one or two locations.  Yet, there are certain aspects of old cherub that makes it also a reassuring read – it reintroduces the now 21 year old James Adams and mentions various others from the first series as well. It also makes cultural references to events like Black Friday (crazy US shopping day) and Angry Birds that sets it within our time.  Certainly many events are unbelievable but that is what makes cherub special – what if you were a kid who could be a spy? Year 7-10.
